Bride and groom flew across the world to elope at the Sheats—Goldstein Residence in Beverly Hills, CA

Our Austrailian bride, Cassie, had an impeccable vision for her intimate elopement. As a stylist and art director, she knew she wanted a jaw dropping venue and was willing to travel across the world to Beverly Hills for it. The couple chose the iconic Sheats–Goldstein Residence to be their destination venue. It was designed by architect John Lautner in the 60’s, and the ART that was created by the couple’s photographer Rachel Artime… just wow!!!

Cassie’s hair and makeup look, created by Julie from our team, was absolutely stunning paired with this setting. Simplicity within bridal hair and makeup is something I think will be seen more and more in the coming years, and I could not be more obsessed. A look as “simple” as hair down and waved with a natural and neutral makeup look is so modern, chic, and effortless.

Below is an exact quote from Cassie’s instagram as she was in the planning stages of this destination elopement in Los Angeles…

”So after I posted my insta story a few weeks ago about the Sheats Goldstein Residence I had a bazillion lovely messages and questions so I thought I’d give you the big long Cassie version. Plus it’s probably the best story I’ve ever had in my entire life and it absolutely needs to be shared.

By farrrrr the most important part of a wedding for me is the venue. We wanted something unique and super personal to us, not another churn and burn wedding venue with no soul. Sam and I are both obsessed with mid century and brutalist architecture as well as lush AF gardens so naturally my mind immediately went to the Sheats Goldstein Residence designed by John Launter.

I knew it was owned by James Goldstein (do yourself a favour and look him up, you won’t regret it) who’s been living there since the early 70’s but I had no idea if he hired out for events. After a quick google I found 2 weddings that had been hosted there. Another quick google led me to the venue website that lists the house. My jaw hit the ground when they told me it was going to be a whopping $50,000. No food. No booze. Just the venue. I went back and asked they’d lower the price for 2 hours for a quick ceremony and a cheeky glass or two of champagne... no bueno.

Since following James on instagram I’ve learnt he’s an incredibly charitable man and loves sharing his house with the world. He often lets architecture students through and has said once he dies he’s donating the property to LACMA as well as $17 million (USD!) for it’s future maintenance and upkeep. So I thought to myself, he seems like a nice guy, maybe I’ll slide into his DM’s?

In the end I did one better, I found his personal email address (naturally listed on his website about himself) and legit begged him to let us get married at his house. Even if we had no guests and it was only for 30 minutes. Two weeks later I got an email back from his assistant Roberta which said ‘Let us know when you’re coming, you’ll have 30 minutes of architectural splendour. James surprised me on this one, no fee. Congrats!’

☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ DEDDDDDDDD. FUCKING DEDDDDD. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!
Naturally we want to get there ASAP before he changes his mind (not kidding) so I’ve already picked my dress, Sam has designed his tux, dream photographer locked in, dream florist and accomodation almost locked in and all that’s left is a celebrant and hair & makeup!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m SUPER excited to marry Sam but I’m almost more excited to see the house and have the coolest wedding photos ever. Almost.

If you got this far, I’m incredibly impressed. Let me reward you with some cool shit about the Sheats Goldstein Residence...

• It’s in Beverley Hills and is around the corner from the Playboy Mansion. In fact James and Hugh used to play tennis together every week.

• Rihanna had her 28th birthday here.. no biggie..

• You know the revolving wardrobe at the start of Clueless? That’s inspired by James’ wardrobe.

• The house has been in a bunch of movies and video clips like the Big Lebowski, Charlies Angels 2 (lol) and most recently Dojo Cat’s ‘Say So’ video.

• At the bottom of the 4.5 acre property is a mother fucking JAMES TURRELL installation.

• For the last 5 decades the house has been tweaked and altered with the help of John Launter, the original architect. Since John passed away James has been working with his protégées to keep the design as close to John’s as possible. There’s been some form of construction every day since the 70s. Talk about a perfectionist!

• James recently finished his ‘entertainment complex’ next door to the original property. Ground level is a second pool, middle level is a nightclub called Club James (naturally) that is reflective of the original house, and the rooftop is the world’s only infinity tennis court. It sits on the edge of a cliff with only a waist high glass partition between you and drop down.

• James originally bought the house for Natasha, his Afghan Hound. He never got married or had kids but he has confirmed he had an affair with Jayne Mansfield!”
